*On Looking and Reading
Indigenous Art and the Museum, a Case Study*

**Bonnie Devine, Anishinaabe from Serpent River First Nation, Ontario**

While co-editing the recently published exhibit catalog "Early Days: Indigenous Art from the McMichael Collection of Canadian Art", Ms. Devine noted how the introduction of Indigenous voices during the preparation of the book impacted the trajectory of the overall project and the institution itself. During this talk, Ms. Devine will outline the history of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the antecedents of the Early Days exhibition of Indigenous art (contemporary and historic), while suggesting possible pathways to a more responsive, inclusive, and collaborative art institution.

*Cosponsored by the Department of History of Art + Architecture*
