 ***Fire and Ice Revisited: The Evolution of Social Values in Canada and the United States***

###  **Michael Adams, Founder and President of the Environics Institute for Survey Research**

   
Michael Adams is the author of seven books, including *Fire and Ice: The United States, Canada and the Myth of Converging Values* (2003) which won the Donner prize as best book on public policy, *American Backlash* (2005) and *Could It Happen Here? Canada in the Age of Trump and Brexit* (2017). In 2023, University of Toronto Press will publish his chapter entitled “American Backlash, Canadian Compromise,” in the edited collection, *Canada and the United States: Differences that Count* (fifth edition).

 He holds an Honours B.A. in Political Studies from Queen's University (1969) and a M.A. in Sociology from the University of Toronto (1970).

 In 2009, he received an honorary Doctor of Letters from Ryerson University and in 2016, he was awarded the Order of Canada, the country’s highest domestic honour.
